Hop in your car and head down to Rocky Point

alt

It’s so rewarding when readers share their Rocky Point experiences with me. It makes what I do seem even that much more significant and lets me know that there really is someone listening out there in the vast internet cosmos.

This letter is from Julie Chitwood, a life-long Rocky Point advocate, who single-handedly is helping to squash the rumors that have kept so many anxious tourists from visiting our beautiful little beach community.

Over Spring Break our Granddaughter came down using Head Out To Rocky Point which worked out really well for her. On the USA side the kids (ASU) had to fill out USA forms saying they weren't bringing more than 10K into Mexico. They walked their luggage across coming and going.
Then this week friends of ours drove down. They had been really worried about us when we moved downalt here full time having read all the bad press - sort of thought we had lost our minds. But being good friends decided to venture down and check on us. When they walked in it was "WOW, the pictures don't do this place justice!" They immediately fell in love with the view of the Sea of Cortez and the miles of beautiful beaches. They have travelled all over - Caribbean Islands, Costa Rica, etc. and said they had never seen so many beautiful miles upon miles of beaches like Puerto Peňasco.
They said the trip down was a breeze - border crossing great - friendly on both sides. They got the red light but were immediately waved on. Thought the road from Sonoyta to Peňasco was a really good road and never felt a moment of concern. They ended up staying a couple of days longer than they planned and didn't really want to leave. We all had a wonderful time eating Thrifty ice cream cones and wandering up and down altthe Malecon and buying shrimp. One observation they made was that the vendors here are really nice and not at all pushy. The said that in other places, such as Cabo and Jamaica etc., the vendors can actually spoil walking around because they won't take no for an answer.
As they were driving out they commented that they were going to tell everyone that they shouldn't listen to the bad press and that they should hop in their cars and immediately head down here - and that they would be back.
